Save the Villain [Chapter 42]

*****

I thought I had become immune to handsome men, thanks to the men of the Visenna family, but I was wrong.

When I first saw the original, I was indifferent to Ferze, who was the villain and secondary male lead.

There was definitely a character whose face I liked the most, but now I can't even remember its name.

What I remember is that, he is the captain of the imperial knights who dated Riena, and one day shot an arrow into Sharkis heart.

'Ah, it was Hart Isnel.'

He was the bad guy who put a dead flag on Sharkis.

So now it's time to forget about Hart Isnel.

They would meet someday, but he was Riena's second boyfriend.

Even Hart was close to the Emperor. Although Riena and the Emperor had a brief separation and reunion.....

Even Hart was Sharkis direct superior!

It's clear that Hart wasn't the most handsome.

In terms of beauty, Eustia was a handsome man who would make even the goddess Freya fall in love with him, and in terms of good looks, Ferze was a statue that the goddess had put her heart and soul into creating.

If Visenna had followed the right path, I wondered if he would have been a handsome man who shook up the social world, not as a family of assassins like he is now.

Although he was no match for the good looks of the two men, Hart had his own charm.

He had slightly droopy, sad eyes and a puppy–like appearance, so he often stole the hearts of noble ladies.

Now he has just become the family's enemy.

I was about to send him off from my memories when my father spoke with ghostly timing.

"Ciel Visenna, I thought I said I wouldn't accept a living man as  son-in-law."

I stared at Ferze, my mind lost.

My father, realizing that I had lost my mind, covered my eyes with his large hands.

Thanks to that, only Ferze's voice could be heard.

"Why should you refuse the mine you so desperately wanted, Duke Eustia?"

When I heard it, it was strange that they were going to give back the mine that they had so coveted.

To get the mine, my father went so far as to kidnap Ferze's father and even the heroine, Riena.

"The Karnen mine, which you so desperately wanted that I even kidnapped my father. I will personally present it to my father-in-law as a gift."

At the Grand Duke of Yekartes remark, Dad raised his eyebrows.

Soon, a black mana in the shape of a monster attacked Ferze.

It had been nearly two years since an intruder had invaded Grandeur Castle.

Anyone in their right mind would not have raided the duke's territory, no matter what orders were given or what the reason was.

The assassins' sanctuary.

The House of Visenna, headed by Eustia Visenna.

Among the invaders, there were some who were not afraid even of the infamous name.

They were the knights of the Grand Duke, wearing silver badges.

They were as brave and daring as their master, Grand Duke Ferze Yekart.

The people of the empire respected and loved the knights who protected Djibril Empire from monsters.

The knights with golden epaulette on their shoulders were as fierce as the lords they followed, but they were beautiful when they held their swords.

When they returned to the capital after defeating the monsters, people of all ages and genders would run out to see the heroes of the empire.

The honor of becoming a Knight of the White Night solely through skill, regardless of status.

The pride of serving Ferze Yekart, the so-called master of the Dragon Sword and Bahaite, as your lord.

Except for all of these, it was a family that was a dead body.

Knights who don't look back.

The Knights of the White Night did not retreat, no matter how dangerous the order was.

Most of the time, they were on the front lines fighting monsters rather than people.

The Knights of the White Night, led by Ferze, were ruthless men who knew no defeat.

'Let's hurry up and get rid of these annoying guys and go see the youngest.'

Visenna's first son, Sharkis, swung his sword without a trace of nervousness.

It wasn't his intention to provoke, but it didn't seem like much of a threat, so he yawned.

"How dare you insult His Highness the Grand Duke......keuk.. ugh."

The knight who had been shouting bravely fainted after letting out a short cry.

Sharkis, who was striking down knights one after another with his sword, turned his head.

Slap.

A chill ran down his spine, and then one of the knights who had been trying to take his life collapsed behind him.

Whether or not Sharkis looked on in surprise, Shurei, who had stamped on the head of the unconscious knight with his foot, lightly swung his spear.

"I was pretending to let my guard down on purpose. It was useless, Shurei."

"Sharkis Visenna. Your senses must be completely dead."

Shurei's cold gaze, devoid of a single smile, was directed at Sharkis.

Even though he was his older brother who wasn't related by blood, he still felt uneasy about leaving him to die, so he helped him, but that was all he could say.

'A bastard who pretends to be pure and innocent on the outside, but inside, he's as dark as if he's eaten a dozen monsters.'

Shurei muttered to himself while looking at Sharkis and looked away from him.

He didn't expect it in the first place, so he had no intention of hearing a thank you.

Shurei, who had dug into the Knights of the White Night, swung his spear lightly.

The shoulder of the knight who was lying in ambush behind Sharkis was stabbed.

Crunch.

At the crisp sound of the blade piercing through muscle and slicing through bone, Sharkis chuckled with a knowing expression.

'I guess he thought I didn't know. Cute Shurei.'

The cutest one is, of course, the youngest, Ciel.

"Our, Shurei. Can't you help your beloved brother, who's about to die?"

".... That's bullshit."

"Huh."

A strange light appeared in Sharkis's eyes as he looked at Shurei.

Something was definitely different. I knew what it was, but it was hard to put into words.

If it were the old Shurei, he would have left him alone, whether he died or was stabbed.

It would be more accurate to say that he deliberately chose not to help even though he could have helped.

In fact, during the last war with the monsters, Sharkis was almost seriously injured.

It was 99.9% his own fault that Sharkis was in danger.

It was no fun to defeat them all at once, so he played along regardless of whether the opponent he was fighting was a human or a monster.

His fighting style was simple.

They deliberately give the opponent an opening, giving them the confidence that they can win.

When the eyes that had been filled with fear turned to hope, at that very moment, he brutally slaughtered the enemy.

That day, too, he was playing with a giant snake monster instead of treating it with sincerity.

Even though both hands holding the sword were tied to the snake's tail and he was almost killed, Shurei just glanced at him as if he were looking at a passerby.

Even though he clearly heard me asking for heIp, he just turned his back and walked away.

When he later appeared alive, he seemed to be rather disappointed.

'...... I guess he did it because he thought that if I died, he would be closer to becoming the successor.'

On that topic, he never thought he'd do something he wasn't told to do.

This was also the first time that Shurei had stepped forward to help.

Sharkis had helped Shurei a few times when he was younger than he is now.

It was because he felt uneasy about leaving his younger brother, who was in danger because he couldn't yet perfectly control his mana, to die.

Every time, Shurei would look at him with a look that said he had done something wrong, and then go on with his own way.

"As expected of those who follow the Grand Duke, they're so cruel. My pretty hand got a wound."

"Is a small wound really that important? Even if your hand were cut off, Father would still put it back on."

He doesn't like that.

Sharkis shook his head as he looked at the inhuman Shurei.

A gap appeared in Shurei's ice wall, which had stood like an unmelting eternal snow.

The gap created by a small moment had grown quite large.

Sharkis asked Shurei as he swung his sword at the knights approaching him.

"Why don't you kill me, Shurei?"

Since a while ago, Shurei had been fighting the knights with his spear in hand.

Even though he could have killed him by taking advantage of his weakness, all he could do was stun him.

Although Sharkis had no intention of killing the knights, he didn't feel the need to spare them, so he swung his sword carelessly.

The Knights of the White Night are all renowned for their skill, yet none of them have died.

Even knowing this, Shurei avoided the vital points from the beginning and attacked.

That was something that could not have happened to Shurei Visenna, who was ambitiously aiming for the next Duke.

'Somehow he resembled my father more than me, his own son.'

A doll with bleached emotions.

The day he first saw Shurei, Sharkis thought so.

Duke Eustia, and Shurei Visenna.

It was quite a strange feeling being caught between the two dolls.

The Shurei he knew was a great man who wouldn't spare any intruder who invaded his residence, no matter who sent them.

Sharkis asked with narrowed eyes.

"Is it because of the youngest that the Grand Duke's knights are kept alive?"

"No way."

Shurei denied it in a sharp tone.

The knights of the Grand Duke's family surrounding them had already fallen long ago.

As they were a small group of elite knights known as the White Night Knights, they were stronger than most enemies.

The rumors that even the Imperial Knights were giving up were not false, and it was not easy to deal with them.

Still, they could not stand against the two prince of Visenna.

"Are you worried that the youngest will get angry?"

"........"

Shurei remained silent in response to the following question, his spear still hanging.

Despite the obvious evasion, Sharkis continued to ask.

"Or maybe the youngest will cry?"

"......."

"Because I thought the youngest would resent me?"

"........"

At this point, he understands. What caused Shurei to change.

Why do we show even a shred of mercy to our enemies?
