Save the Villain [Chapter 31]

*****

It was not until early evening that I opened my eyes.

Before I knew it, I was lying in bed and next to me, Barney, whose face turned blue, was praying in a dreary tone.

I pricked up my ears, but it sounded like
she was praying to the devil to save this young lady,  so I pretended not to hear.

When did I fall asleep?

Before I could ask Barney, she told me what happened after I passed out.

Luckily, thanks to Shurei catching me, my head wasn't injured.

I thought that the strong Bunny had lifted me up, but she said that Shurei had personally carried me to the bed.

Since Shurei was so picky and had obsessive-compulsive disorder, I wondered if it was true.

There was a crackling sound of the door opening, and Shurei, who looked no different from usual, came into the bedroom.

Fortunately, he looked clean and had changed into new clothes after receiving treatment.

Because he was a priest, his recovery speed was incredible.

I'm sure I'll get in big trouble, right?

Or are you just dragging me to the temple?

I was so scared that I suddenly closed my eyelids as if I was falling asleep.

"Zzzz...."

"Oh, dear! Miss Ciel must have fallen asleep because she was so sleepy!"

"Get out of my way because I don't intend to wake you up."

Barney glanced at Shurei and moved away.

Memories from before I passed out came back vividly.

Instead of half-fainting, I opened my eyes and looked up at Shurei and asked.

- Why do you hate me?

- .......

Shurei's gaze wavered for a moment at my words.

The boy, who soon returned to his icy expression, gave no answer.

Despite Barney's dissuasion, Shurei came to the bed and sat down next to me.

I closed my eyes tightly and clutched the blanket, afraid that I would be caught if I opened them half-closed.

My heart was pounding too hard to even breathe.

"The reason I hate you is....."

Shurei's voice was even more quiet.

Are you here to answer that question?

A cold, gloved hand gently touched my forehead as I pretended to sleep.

"Because you look like me."

Wouldn't it be good if we resembled each other?

I wanted to ask why he didn't like it, but I couldn't say anything because I felt sad for some reason.

"....... Ciel Visenna. You too, like me, were abandoned."

Shurei muttered in a low voice, as if he thought I wouldn't hear.

After saying that, Shurei sat up.

As soon as I heard the door close, I sighed and sat up.

"Is he gone now?"

"..... Who?"

"Who else? Shurei...."

I rolled my eyes as I was about to say, Vissenna.

When I heard the door close, I thought Shurei had gone out, but it was Barney who had gone out.

"........."

"........."

I was so surprised that I tried to step back and ended up falling under the bed.

It's a pretty high bed, so it'll hurt!

I closed my eyes tightly, but I didn't feel any pain.

'Uh?'

I opened my eyes slightly and saw Shurei Visenna holding me in his arms with an expressionless face.

As I was panicking while being held in Shurei's arms, the door opened and Barney came in, dragging a tray.

Judging by the delicious smell, it seemed like they had prepared a comforting soup.

"Oh my, miss!"

Despite my urgent cries, Barney didn't approach me easily.

Shurei, who was holding me, raised his
eyebrows at the maid's insincere attitude.

"Barney, take 'this' quickly."

"Young master, Miss Ciel is not a burden.
And please do not ask a weak maid like me to do dangerous work."

Barney, unbecoming of a maid, refused her master's command and stepped back hesitantly.

"Damn it."

Shurei cursed softly.

Fortunately, the person who hated me, he didn't throw my body away.

It had been a very long time since I felt the warmth of a human being, and Shurei's hand that held me was trembling slightly.

He was extremely nervous that I might catch him.

It was a completely different attitude from when he secretly touched my forehead, thinking I was asleep.

"Just put your hand on my body."

Shurei, who had warned me like that, looked relieved that I was wearing black silk gloves.

Why..... I'm not saying I have an infectious disease.

How can you help someone and still make them feel bad?

If this was also a talent, then Shurei was a capable person.

"Think it's an honor, commoner."

When I heard that, I raised my eyebrows.

As expected, Shurei Visenna was a bad older brother.

When he called me a commoner, Shurei bow his head to me, as if he had something to say.

What are you trying to say this time?

While I was a little nervous, Shurei's lips slowly opened.

It was a soft voice that only I could hear.

"......I heard you ran away from home when you were young."

Listening to Shurei, my eyes widened.

"How do you know that?"

"......."

He didn't tell me how he found out, but his deep gaze was filled with unspeakable emotions.

Shurei, the second son of the cruel and arrogant Visenna.

But to my eyes, he just seemed like a boy who cleverly hid the pain of being abandoned by his family.

As if walking precariously on a thorny path made of glass with pure white feet.

- You are a monster. I can't raise my children with a monster like you.

- Please don't leave me. ...... I was wrong.

How many tears must have been shed, how long must the mask covering those wounds have been worn?

My throat felt tight, as if I were in a harsh desert. I looked at Shurei and opened my mouth.

"Actually, I wasn't abandoned. I came out on my own two feet. It's okay, since I abandoned them first."

"You abandoned them first?"

"That's right! And Shurei wasn't abandoned either. She broke up with the bad guys to find a new family."

"..... That's so absurdly reckless."

Somehow I found myself cutting Shurei's knee.

The maid, Barney, looked back and forth between me and Shurei with a surprised expression on her face.

"You think you can survive here with such tiny hands? Visenna is a place teeming with monsters."

Shurei reached out and touched my gloved hand.

His face showed that he didn't understand why I wasn't afraid of him.

Me, who reminds him of the abandoned past, and his hand that holds me.

As if nothing had happened, Shurei put his icy expression back on.

He spoke in a cold voice, having wiped away all the emotions that had been blooming.

"If you want to survive in Visenna, don't crave affection."

On the topic of injuries, Shurei gave me advice.

With a strangely locked gaze.

Shurei's golden hair fluttered in the wind that flowed in through the window.

I looked up at the deep crimson sunset sky with the boy's knee bent.

Before I knew it. A blue butterfly I had seen in the garden had landed on my cheek.

"Oh, it's a butterfly."

As if answering my call, the wings of a butterfly resembling blue coral fluttered.

From that day on, I began training with a new teacher.

It's been a little over a year since that incident.

Unfortunately, no one could see through my abilities.

Even Eustia had a worried expression on his face, saying, 'This is the first time I've seen something like this.'

Oh, it's not Eustia.

The journey of Eustia becoming a new father, from stepfather to dad was not easy.

It was purely because of his efforts that I started calling the Duke 'Dad'.

I became a little closer to my dad by giving me snacks, giving me gold bars as gifts, putting jewels he found in my pockets....

Sometimes, when we had time, we would go to the lakeside at the Duke's residence together.

It looks like a lake you can see anywhere, but it turns out that a scary monster lives inside.

'He seemed to like it even when I called
him Daddy.'

I was in flight training riding a wyvern.

Why do you take flight training?

There are many reasons, but the biggest reason was to become a magician.

Ordinary people with little magical power did not know the difference between wizards and magician.

That would be the case, because if you
asked them if they were both magicians, they would have nothing else to say.

Although they both control mana, there are slight differences in their abilities.

A wizard is someone who uses magic purely and has realized the principle of magic.

A person who uses magic as their main ability but also possesses other abilities is called a magician.

In other words, a person who has mastered two or more principles is called a magician.

It was in the same context that my father, an alchemist, was called the great magician Eustia.

Wizards were originally of weak constitution.

There were times when I would fall down while reciting a spell, and there were many times when. I was caught by the enemy before I could use my magic, because my stamina was low.

Besides, the place I was at was the Duke of Visenna's residence.

Since my father and older brother all rode monsters, I had to get used to riding a wyvern too.

Magic training to memorize formulas was the most important, but I could not neglect flight training.
